How Good Time Today is calculated using the Hindi Panchang
Good / Okay / Bad for this page follows Hindi Panchang for your location. Sunrise and sunset set the day’s frame; then Tithi, Nakshatra, Durmuhurt, Varjyam and Chaughadiya are combined minute by minute. Stronger adverse factors (such as Durmuhurt or Varjyam) win when they overlap. Birth star, when available, can personalize the result further.
- How is Durmuhurt calculated?
- We take local sunrise→sunset (day length) and, by weekday, place one or two Durmuhurt windows as fixed fractions of that day (about 0.8/12 of day length each, with Saturday using 1.6/12 from sunrise). Those minutes are always treated as bad (red).
- How is Varjyam calculated?
- Varjyam is tied to the current Nakshatra’s full span. For each star we use a traditional offset (as a fraction of that Nakshatra’s duration) and a length of 1.6/24 of the same span. Overlapping civil-day minutes are bad (red).
- How is Amrit Kaal calculated?
- Amrit Kaal uses the same Nakshatra-span method as the inauspicious Varjyam/Vargyam window, with a different per-star offset table and the same 1.6/24 length. It is shown as an auspicious interval; it does not change the overall good/okay/bad colour by itself.
- How is Rahu Kaal calculated?
- Rahu Kaal divides local sunrise→sunset into 8 equal parts. Each weekday picks one part (Sun 8th, Mon 2nd, Tue 7th, Wed 5th, Thu 6th, Fri 4th, Sat 3rd). It is shown for this tradition. It affects the good/okay/bad result only when it is included in the user’s personalized calculation.
- How is Chaughadiya calculated?
- Daylight (sunrise→sunset) and night (sunset→next sunrise) are each split into 8 equal slots. Weekday order names the slots; Amrit/Shubh/Labh merge as good, Char as okay, Rog/Kaal/Udveg as bad when Chaughadiya calc is used.
